To foster the growing internationalization of Chinese civil engineers, ICE had been seeking to initiate a branch in Beijing.
On 8th December 2005, the ICE Beijing initiation meeting was held at CHEC. Mr. Geoffrey Mills (ICE China representative), Dr. Hu Jianhua (former president of CHEC), and Mr. Wang Bo (vice president of CHEC) attended the meeting. At the meeting, ICE expressed their willingness to establish a branch office in Beijing and CHEC expressed its interest in hosting ICE Beijing Branch. Mutual efforts from both sides promoted the establishment of ICE’s Beijing Branch.
On 5th July 2006, ICE and CHEC signed a formal cooperation agreement and trademark license agreement. ICE’s Beijing Branch has been authorized by ICE Headquarters to conduct senior training programs, accreditation, promotion, activities etc in Beijing and its surrounding areas..
ICE Beijing Branch was formally established on June 18th, 2007.
A framework of professional engineering training, membership development and liaison and member services has been created since the establishment of ICE’s Beijing Branch. Meanwhile, Beijing branch has organized numerous activities, such as training, seminars, site visits for its members.
